Thanks.Īstrill has been better than Express for me. I use Disney+ and YouTube mostly to watch videos so if you have any suggestions about VPN services, please feel free to comment. I'm curious about Astrill VPN since I've heard about it from other expats but they don't offer a refund at all and they're very pricey so I'd like to hear from people who's actually used it in China how fast and reliable it is. They also collect more of your login activity than other VPNs so I wouldn't recommend them either. I've also used VyperVPN, it hasn't worked well, it's very slow and I can barely watch a YouTube video without it buffering or going down to 240p. I wouldn't recommend this services but I'd like to hear if someone else has had a different experience. They don't have a dedicated page for Chinese users and after 5 years, they downgraded by license to a free user so my choices are more limited. I can hardly use their services in China at all. I've had PureVPN for years as I had a lifetime license from a sale they had. They offer a 30 day money back guarantee but they will only honor this twice and deny a refund the third time. For people who aren't technology savvy like my kid or wife, this is too troublesome and cumbersome so I wouldn't recommend it. For iOS, the NordVPN app doesn't work, you have to manually set up the VPN and enter the server name and IP, if it doesn't work, enter in a new server address and new IP. On their page, it states that their service doesn't work on Windows devices but they do have a test build to use in countries with restrictive internet access, I've tried it and followed their steps on my Windows PC but it still doesn't work. I've tried using NordVPN and I've found it the most exhausting one to use for iOS and Windows devices. It has been the most reliable one out of the 4 VPNs I've used. Those times I have to disconnect and reconnect, sometimes it reconnects right away, other times it may take a few minutes to hours for it to reconnect. I've been using ExpressVPN for years, it's been OK using it, during sensitive political times the VPN service will get targeted and I won't be able to connect for a few days, sometimes the VPN connection drops randomly but recently I've been having a consistent issue where it says it's connected but there is no internet traffic. Since the ban on VPN discussion has been lifted, I'd like to see what VPNs other expats are using and share my own experiences with them while in China. I can't trust the tech websites that have written articles about VPNs for China because they're paid by one or more of the VPNs to essentially create puff pieces of their services and they don't live in China to try the services for themselves. Because population snapshots do not account for movement in and out of prisons since March 2020, and because many systems have significantly slowed the number of new people being sent to prison, it’s difficult to estimate the total number of people who have been held since March 2020. We calculate the rates of infection and death to allow for the easiest comparison across prison systems. In states with unified prison and jail systems, we included both detainees awaiting trial and sentenced prisoners. Before that, population figures may have included additional people, such as prisoners housed in other facilities, which were not captured in our COVID-19 data. Beginning the week of July 28, 2020, we updated all prisoner population numbers, reflecting the number of incarcerated adults in state or federal prisons. To estimate the rate of infection among prisoners, we collected population data for each prison system before the pandemic, roughly in mid-March of 2020, and then in April and June and each month after that. Similarly, in Maryland, several pretrial facilities in Baltimore City are included in the figures. These numbers have been grouped by the week the data was collected.įor six states with unified prison and jail systems - Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island, Vermont - we count testing and case numbers from both detainees awaiting trial and sentenced prisoners. Working with The Associated Press, we requested this data every week from state departments of corrections and the Federal Bureau of Prisons however, not all departments could provide data for the exact dates requested. Starting on March 26, 2020, reporters from The Marshall Project collected data on COVID-19 tests administered to people incarcerated in all state and federal prisons, as well as the staff in those facilities. Prisons publicly reported 209 deaths among staff. Among state corrections departments that reported how many staff tested positive, most stressed that the count included only the employees who voluntarily reported a diagnosis, often in the course of calling out sick.īy the end of June 2021, 114,237 prison staff members tested positive, and new cases hit an all-time high the week of Dec. In our final week of data collection, 13 states - Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia - released information on the number of their staff members tested for the coronavirus. We know less about how the coronavirus affected them, though they have the potential to carry it both into facilities and back out to their communities, because many weren’t systematically tested. While we know more about how prisoners were getting sick, another group of people were also at risk in these facilities: correctional officers, nurses, chaplains, wardens and other workers. Most notably, Ian's office-which was always locked-is open and stripped clean.

There are other compression methods too, but the ones mentioned are the most popular.Įxtracting Tar Files in Linux using Terminal Here are different types of Tar files:īear in mind, that the ‘no compression’ only goes for files ending with “.tar” Compression methods such as Gzip and Unix compression add another extension to the Tar file like “tar.gz” and “tar.xz,” respectively. Tar stands for Tape Archive and the difference between the same and Zip files is Tar bundles files without compressing them whereas Zip files are usually compressed. The support is expected to arrive with the release of Windows 11 23H2.Before we dig in, it’s important to understand Tar and its types and how they’re used in different scenarios to bundle and pack files in Linux. It’s important to note that Microsoft is building native support for TAR, GZ, 7-Zip, RAR, and many other archival formats to File Explorer. These are the basic options to extract a “.tar.gz” file, but you can use the tar -help command to learn more about the available options. You must pay attention to uppercase and lowercase while typing a Linux command since “Desktop” is not the same as “desktop.” The -C - (hyphen and capital C) option is used to change folders, and you have to specify the destination path, which starts with the /mnt/ annotation followed by the Windows path. In the command, we start the path with /mnt/c/ since this is Linux, not Windows. f - instructs tarball the name of the file to extract.Īfter the option, you have to specify the path of the tarball file to extract.z - tells tar to uncompress the content of a “.tar.gz” file with gzip.Otherwise, you will only see a blinking cursor until the process is complete. v - optional argument to display the extraction process.x - instructs tar you want to extract content. We used the sudo command to run the tool as an administrator, tar to call the application, and we use these options: tar file, use the same command but omit the z argument. Measures risk tolerance, decision-making, pattern recognition, learning, and impulsivity by pumping balloons and avoiding them from popping The test results are valid for 330 days and a person cannot retake the test before this period is over. The gamified tests measure the candidate’s potential across their talent lifecycle. The 12 core mini-games of pymetrics assess the emotional and cognitive attributes of candidates to recognize their strengths and suggest positions that are best suited to their personalities. The games can be completed in 20 to 30 minutes and each follows a different objective. The pymetrics test has 12 mini-games with each one lasting 2 to 3 minutes. Pymetrics 12 Core Games Pymetrics 12 Core Games. Employers analyze the complete reports of the candidates and choose the ones they feel are best suited to the positions in their company. The strategy behind this is to match candidates with their ideal jobs based on their soft skills and personality traits. Instead, top-performing individuals in different positions take the pymetrics test and their performance speaks for itself. Pymetrics games are not scored with numbers. Instead of considering age, race, gender, color, school, background, etc, the test focuses on personality and behavior. The algorithm builds a personality profile for the candidate based on how they play the games. These assessments are innocent-looking, fun to play with, and monitor the behavior of the candidate at every step. It is among the many game-based assessments that have increased in popularity over the past few years. The pymetrics assessment consists of 12 pre-employment games used by many of the world’s most famous and in-demand employers like Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Blackstone, and British American Tobacco (BAT). These traits fall under 9 broad categories which are used to determine the personality and character of the applicants. While applicants are engaged and unaware, pymetrics games assess around 90 behavioral, social, and cognitive traits. Most employees and candidates enjoy playing pymetrics games as they are highly engaging. The test replaces traditional resumes with behavioral data for a fair, science-based assessment of individuals. Pymetrics follows an unbiased, unique algorithm that allows employers to gain a better understanding of the candidates applying for positions at their company. pymetrics games measure over 90 cognitive, social, and behavioral traits of job applicants and employees. The size of an expert's vocabulary of chess-related configurations was estimated to be an incredible 50,000 to 100,000 chunks! Using a type of brain scanning known as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), we have shown that the lateral prefrontal cortex contributes to our ability to chunk information (Bor et al., 2003).Pymetrics games are comprised of 12 online mini-games that serve as AI-based assessments. These experts seem to use their knowledge to create meaningful chunks, consisting of several chess pieces, thereby increasing the capacity of their visuospatial memory. In one study, chess masters were shown a chess board configuration for only a few seconds and were much more able to accurately recreate the same configuration than non-expert players (Simon & Gilmartin, 1973). It is this process that is thought to underlie the expert abilities of chess masters. Chunking involves recoding items into memorable clusters of information. Our research, and several classic studies in the neuroscientific literature, have shown that visuospatial memory can be improved through "chunking" strategies.
